Sal’av (that’s Atlasian for hello!), and I have a writing questionnaire about my writing habits to share, as requested by a friend. Being a writer is a complicated journey. I’m still green around the ears, but the more I write, the more I discover about myself.
1. Questionnarie: How Often Do You Write? When? Where?
I typically write throughout the year, even on holidays. Honestly, whenever I find time between family obligations, my dayjob, and other tasks. I prefer around midday or early evening, rarely in the mornings when I’m still waking up. On busy workdays, I spend about an hour writing, but on my days off, I can write for up to three or four hours.
2. Questionnarie: Do You Take Long Breaks?
Taking breaks to rest and recharge is important for me when it comes to writing. It’s important to give myself time to relax, get some movement snacks in, and engage in activities like sketching, hiking, and meditation. By doing so, I can prevent burnout and ensure that my creative abilities stay sharp!
3. Questionnarie: Music? Tea? Coffee?
I usually play music depending on my mood.
White noise: good general focus music for me when I want to minimize distractions
Progressive melodic house: another good one for long creative sessions; this one has a nice tempo that keeps me going
Chiptune: generally good for focus, but better for sketching I’ve found as it really excites my imagination
Epic music: great for writing big battles and other epic scenes in my novels
I sometimes drink lemon balm or another herbal tea. Never coffee!
4. Questionnarie: Favorite Scenes To Write?
I like action-adventure, some gentle, slow-burn romance, and mysterious lore scenes that provokes deep thought or excitement. Even horror can be great for my writing flow if it really stimulates my creativity.
5. Questionnarie: Favorite Characters To Write?
I like to write heroes more than villains, especially scenes that involve legendary weapons with flashy designs.
6. Questionnarie: Poetry or Stories?
I like both. Stories are deeper, but poetry can be a nice insert into a story too. Weaving both together is a beautiful process.
7. Questionnarie: How Do You See Yourself As A Writer Ten Years From Now? Twenty?
I have no plans on being someone famous. Writing, to me, is more a fun and creative process, not a mechanical job-like thing for profit or fame. I write for God most of all. But I’m hoping to have a few books published and a moderate following on my newsletter in ten years.
